About CYHRNet

The BC Child and Youth Health Research Network or CYHRNet (pronouced "Cheer-Net") was established in 2005 as one of eight Health Of Population Networks (HoPN) funded by the Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research (MSFHR).

The Health of Population Networks were developed with a mandate to link researchers and research resources across institutions, organizations and regions, build critical mass, share and leverage research capacity and promote a spirit of collaboration and partnership. In October 2005, CYHRNet held its Inaugural Workshop. The event aimed to create connections among child and youth health researchers and gather feedback on how the network could best use its resources to increase research capacity in BC. A group of 176 researchers, representing biomedical, population health, health services delivery, mental health, aboriginal health and disabilities research, attended and were involved in two days of networking and planning. From this workshop, CYHRNet’s structure, leadership and objectives began to take shape. See the workshop report [.pdf]

CYHRNet is now a well-established network in BC's child and youth health research community. Its granting activities have helped to establish several strong multidisciplinary research teams and its workshops and conferences are important KT events which augment research capacity and disseminate knowledge on important child and youth health topics.
