Promoting Health & Reducing Risk: Evidence Based Programs that Support Child and Youth Mental Health in Canada
November 13, 2008. Vancouver - Blue Horizon Hotel.
This workshop allowed researchers to promote their evidence-based mental health interventions to end-users of research, including 14 representatives from the Ministry of Children and Family Development. The event provided an opportunity for these end-users to connect with child and youth health researchers and learn more about successful Canadian programs which are available for implementation, including interventions to prevent bullying, address teen depression, treat young children with anxiety disorders and support aggressive teens and their caregivers. It featured a presentation by Shane Koyczan, author of "Stickboy".
The workshop was a great success. Comments from participants included:
Merv Gilbert & Dan Bilsker
Merv Gilbert, a clinical psychologist working at British Columbia's Children's Hospital and in private practice in Vancouver, and Dan Bilsker, a clinical psychologist who works at Vancouver General Hospital and consults to a mental health research group at the University of British Columbia, presented "Dealing with Depression: Development and Dissemination of a Self-Care Guide For Teens."
