CYHRNet Seed Grants
Awarded Annually (Not available in 2010)
Each year, CYHRNet awards a number of Seed Grants, valued at $4.900 each, to support interdisciplinary research teams and the development of projects aligned with CYHRNet's mandate, mission and vision.

CYHRNet Travel Grants
Ongoing (Not available in 2010)
To ensure all CYHRNet members have a chance to participate in important knowledge exchange and networking events, the network awards a limited number of travel grants to members requiring financial assistance to attend a CYHRNet-sponsored event. Grants of up to $500 (up to $800 for members from rural areas) are available. We are unable to provide funding for other opportunities. Please see the events page for current travel grant opportunities.
JDRF High-Priority, Short-Term Bridge Award
Awarded biannually; Deadlines July 1 & Nov. 1
In recognition of the need to support the research of investigators whose research is being curtailed or delayed by failure to receive funding, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation offers the High-Priority, Short-Term Bridge Award which provides one year of funding for research grant applications that address a high-priority research area for JDRF and scored within 10% of the funding payline for a review cycle of a research funding agency up to a year prior to the request to JDRF. The award is valued at up to $55,000 US
Deadline for LOI submission July 2, 2010
This funding opportunity aims to support programmatic operating grants in population and public health research. Programmatic research involves connected sequences of conceptually related research projects, executed by the same group of investigators and their decision-making partners. This initiative will support research programs in the following areas: pathways to health equity; population health interventions; implementation systems for population health interventions in public health and other sectors. The maximum amount awarded for a single grant is $400,000 per year for up to five years. Developmental grants of up to $15,000 may be offered, if requested, to successful applicants at the Letter of Intent stage.

Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Regular Research Grant
Awarded annually; Deadline July 29
The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Regular Research Grant is designed to provide investigators with support to explore the feasibility and development of proposals that are considered to be on the leading edge of diabetes research and that address JDRF research emphasis areas. Proposals that have the potential to impact the current state of diabetes research or that clearly lead to avenues of therapeutic benefit are major considerations. The grant is awarded for up to three years at $165,000 US per year.
Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Postdoctoral Fellowship
Awarded annually; Deadline July 29
The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Postdoctoral Fellowship is designed to attract qualified, promising scientists entering their professional career in the diabetes research field. The applicant is required to work with a sponsor who can provide a training environment conducive to beginning a career in type 1 diabetes-relevant research. Awards are for up to two years with up to $52,960 US per year.
JDRF Advanced Postdoctoral Fellowship
Awarded annually; Deadline July 29
The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Advanced Postdoctoral Fellowship is designed to attract qualified and promising health scientists, to provide an opportunity to receive full-time research training and to assist these promising individuals in transitioning from a fellowship to an independent faculty-level position. Awards are made up to a duration of three years with up to $90,000 US per year.
Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Career Development Award
Awarded annually; Deadline July 29
The primary purpose of Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation's Career Development Award is to attract qualified and promising scientists early in their faculty careers and to give them the opportunity to establish themselves in areas that reflect JDRF research emphasis areas. This award is valued at up to $150,000 US per year for up to five years.
Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Innovative Grants
Awarded biannually; Deadlines July 29 & Feb. 15
The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation provides seed funding for highly innovative research with significant impact on accelerating the missions of JDRF. The innovative research should have the potential for a change in the current paradigm or conventional wisdom or to lead to a seminal discovery or be groundbreaking. This awarded is valued at up to $110,000 US.
ABMRF/The Foundation for Alcohol Research Grants
Awarded biannually; Deadlines Sept. 1 and Feb. 1
The aim of this grant program is to energize the field of alcohol research by helping researchers begin their careers and position them to attract greater funding from other sources. The Foundation accepts applications for grants to conduct research on all aspects on alcohol consumption and its effects. Funds may be requested for a period of up to two years; most annual awards do not exceed US$50,000 annually.

Vancity Community Project Grants
Awarded three times annually; Deadlines Sept. 15, Jan. 31 & May 15
Community project grants provide up to $10,000 for projects that focus on acting on climate change, facing poverty and growing the social economy. Applications that demonstrate work in two or more of these areas are preferred, as are those that focus resources specifically at marginalized people including Aboriginal people, immigrants, refugees and people with low-incomes.

SickKids Foundation Community Conference Grants: Knowledge Sharing with Families
Awarded three times annually; Deadlines Sept. 30, Jan. 31 & May 31
The Community Conference Grants program aims to support events which are organized by and/or for families with children with health challenges, including but not limited to children with acute illness, chronic illness and disabilities. Eligible events will have a focus on information sharing with family and health professionals and/or community organizations.

Alexander Von Humboldt Foundation TransCoop Programme
Awarded biannually; Deadlines October 31 & April 30
The Alexander Von Humboldt Foundation supports transatlantic research co-operation between German, American and/or Canadian scholars in the humanities, social sciences, economics and law. Joint research initiatives can receive up to €55,000 over a three-year period. Applications are accepted biannually, with deadlines of April 30 and October 31.

Canadian Cancer Society Symposium or Conference Support Grant
Awarded biannually; Deadlines Nov. 1 & May 1
The Canadian Cancer Society may provide contributions of up to $20,000 to formal scientific meetings where researchers will have the opportunity to exchange and disseminate information that will enhance cancer research activities in Canada. Applications must provide the details of the conference/symposium, highlighting how the Canadian Cancer Society Contribution will further the cause of Canadian cancer research.

Canadian Cancer Society Cancer Research Workshop Support
Awarded biannually; Deadlines Nov. 1 & May 1
The Cancer Research Workshop program offers grants of up to $30,000 to support the meeting of up to 30 people individually invited to address specific questions or problems important to cancer research in Canada. The final outcome of the workshop can be to reach a consensus on recommendations, to develop a research proposal to address a particular issue or to publish a position paper.

Ernest C. Manning Innovation Awards
Awarded annually; Deadline Dec. 1
The Manning Innovation Awards have been recognizing and encouraging innovation in Canada since 1982. By means of a nomination, Canadians who have demonstrated recent innovative talent in developing and successfully marketing a new concept, process or procedure, may be eligible for the Principal Award (valued at $100,000), the Award of Distinction (valued at $25,000) or an Innovation Award (2 at $10,000 reserved for those without the benefit of research facilities or advanced education in the field of their innovation.)

Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council Major Collaborative Research Initiatives (MCRI)
Awarded annually; Deadline for LOI submissions Feb. 21
The MCRI program supports leading-edge research with true potential for intellectual breakthrough that addresses broad and critical issues of intellectual, social, economic and cultural significance through the effective coordination and integration of diverse research activities and research results. Grants are awarded over seven years with a maximum budget of $2.5 million.

CIHR Operating Grant: Population Health Intervention Research
Awarded biannually; Deadlines March 1 & June 1.
The purpose of this funding opportunity is to support the prompt initiation of intervention research on rapidly unfolding programs, policies and resource distribution approaches that have the potential to impact health and health equity at the population level. This funding opportunity strongly encourages close collaboration between program implementers (e.g. decision-makers and researchers). Only research projects that are out of the control of the researcher will be considered, meaning that the researcher is not responsible for designing or implementing the intervention.
The maximum award for a single grant is $100,00 per year for up to two years.
