Recovery and Bipolar Disorder Consultation Day
June 29, 2010. UBC, Vancouver, BC.
Dr. Erin Michalak from UBC's Department of Psychiatry and members of CREST.BD (the Collaborative RESearch Team to study psychosocial issues in Bipolar Disorder) are holding a consultation event to: provide a networking and mutual learning opportunity for CREST.BD team members, people with bipolar disorder (BD) and their family members; explore recovery from the perspective of those living with BD and their family members and support systems; and use community-based research methods to produce a report for dissemination to health care providers. If you experience BD, are a family member of someone with BD or are associated with a relevant community agency, and would like to get involved, please contact Dr. Michalak at 604-822-3393 or erin.michalak@ubc.ca.
Preventable.ca - Impact on British Columbians
July 15, 2010. Via teleconference.
This presentation, part of the BC Injury Research and Prevention Unit's (BCIRPU) 2010 Teleconference series, will discuss the province-wide social marketing campaign launched by the Community Against Preventable Injuries on June 1, 2009. The campaign aimed to raise awareness around preventable injuries, transform attitudes and ultimately change behaviours. Dr. Khairun Jivani, Senior Program Manager for the Community, and CYHRNet Co-Leader and BCIRPU Director Dr. Ian Pike will highlight the impact of campaign activities which included traditional and social media, guerilla activities, ambient messaging and the website preventable.ca, on the knowledge, attitudes and behaviours of British Columbians.

Brain Development & Learning: Making Sense of the Science
July 16-20, 2010. Vancouver, BC.
This third biennial interdisciplinary conference is devoted to improving the lives of children by taking cutting-edge research in neuroscience, developmental science and mental health outside of academia and putting it in the hands of those on the front lines -- psychiatrists, other mental health care providers, social workers, parents, educators and others -- in ways they can understand, see the immediate relevance of, and use.
Normal Labour & Birth: 5th International Research Conference
July 20-23, 2010. Coast Coal Harbour Hotel, Vancouver, BC.
UBC's Midwifery Program presents the fifth session of the International Normal Labour and Birth Research Conference Series. The conference will provide the opportunity to develop and disseminate evidence related to the benefits and challenges of preserving normal labour and birth with a particular focus on the multidisciplinary perspectives on the implications for clinical practice, perinatal outcomes, education, management, collaboration, and policy.

The theme of this year's BC Injury Prevention Conference is "Communication, Coordination and Collaboration." The conference will provide an opportunity for networking and discussions around injury and focus on interventions and best practices, program planning and evaluation, accessing and understanding local injury data, as well as new research.
